My Mission

To create spaces that feel effortless to live in, so that families may live easier and more happy lives, and concentrate on the things that matter the most.

Starting as an architect over 20 years ago, I’ve worked for both large and small architectural firms delivering projects that range from new residences and renovations, resorts, medical facilities, multi-residential housing, golf clubs, schools, commercial offices, retail and aged care.

My career highlights include working on the iconic St Kilda Pier rebuild, as well as a brand-new nine building high school in Tasmania.

During this time, I’ve also been drawn on to create living spaces for friends and family, and, in 2019 established Bliss Architecture with the ambition of being able to deliver my architectural services closer to home, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

My career path also includes the invaluable opportunity of working in a construction company, where I was able gain first-hand knowledge of the ‘other side’ of a project build: costing, procurement, construction programming and methods.

When I’m not at the drawing board, I enjoy a love of life’s simple things: knitting, gardening, camping and hands on construction projects around the home. I’m also a keen filmmaker, having taken some time out in recent years to explore Documentary Filmmaking.

I like to think that it’s a blend of these practical and creative outlets together with my professional experience that allows me the privilege of creating blissful spaces for people, and the ones they love most.

My values

Joy

Small things bring me the most joy: knitting, gardening, camping. I see home design as being similar — a place that we can slow down and create order from our busy lives. It could be the ability to have breakfast every day in a beautiful kitchen, room for homework around a dining table, or daily pickings from a well-placed herb garden. When the rhythms of our lives are truly catered for, we can enjoy the moments that matter the most.

Curiosity

Early in my career I discovered a desire to understand how things are made — how builders and craftsmen put things together, as well as understanding the detailing and materiality involved in bringing a home design to life. These days, this also extends the many ways we can harness the passive energy available to us, and create sustainable spaces that won’t cost us the earth.

Heart

Homes and other public spaces are opportunities to draw people together; to connect, to communicate, and to love. I approach every project with openness; ready to listen and translate the individual needs of my clients into the most heart-centred space we can possibly create — together.

Teamwork

Architecture is an artform that belongs to those who live inside its walls. Every architect loves a project where the sky’s the limit, however, nothing gives me greater satisfaction that working side-by-side with a client to transform their space, on-time and on-budget.

Pragmatism

Above all, architecture must be able to provide solutions that work. There’s no point in a beautiful kitchen that’s short on storage. I approach every project with a dedication to finding the most practical, cost-effective solutions that are bespoke to each family I have the privilege of working alongside.
